Back in 2004, I had the incredible opportunity to travel down to Pitorreal, Mexico with my church. It was a life changing experience that left me feeling that the mission field was my calling. I loved everything about it… the people, the work, the solitude, the seclusion from every day material things. For a while, I seriously thought that I wanted to pursue missions full-time, and even though prayer, patience, and discernment led me to decide that I could still do missions at any time while still pursuing a career, school, etc., something still weighed heavy on my heart. Cambodia. Though I knew nothing about it, Cambodia continued to appear in my head and heart. I felt called to go for some unforeseen reason, however, I also knew that the opportunity would have to come at the right time, when accommodations would be safe, and when I was at a certain state of maturity and spiritual readiness. I had a peace that the time would come, though I didn’t know when… Then, I received a call from my sister last year saying that they were going under the advisement of a husband and wife missionary team from their church. Everything about everything was perfect! The timing, the people, the readiness. Therefore, I will be venturing down to Phonm Penh, Cambodia with an incredible group from Bethany First Baptist Church in July, where we will go forth and serve God in this country that needs so much love. I couldn’t be more excited! This is my chance… this is OUR chance, to make a difference.
Here is why I’m telling you. With every mission adventure, fundraising is needed. I don’t want to solicit you to donate, but here is what I want to do. For every regular portrait session scheduled in February, March, and April, I will save HALF of the fee specifically for Cambodia. HALF! When you think about it, you get a great portrait session, while also giving to an amazing cause. The total cost of the trip is around $2,200, which includes accommodations, airfare, food, and training. I will be doing odd jobs myself to raise money, but it’s still a lot for one person to raise alone. Even if I raise my goal amount, I will give the extra to the others that are going on the trip as well. You can also get a gift certificate for a session for a friend or family member during this time that will totally count! It would be an amazing birthday, anniversary, bridal shower, or baby shower gift. Just send me an e-mail if you’re interested in this!
As you can imagine, this will also be a time for a photographic adventure! Therefore, as an incentive for your donation, you will be entered in a drawing for the chance to win a free photo session, and an 11×14 print of your choice from the trip. One person will receive the photo session, and five people will receive a print. All you have to do is write “Cambodia” in the subject line of all e-mails wanting a session during the February-April shooting period, and you will be contacted upon my return asking what print you would like.
If you don’t want to book a session, but still want to make a donation, PLEASE feel free to do so! Simply send cash or check (make checks payable to “FBC Bethany”, but do NOT put my name in the memo line) to:
First Baptist Bethany
Attn: Cambodia Mission, Kris Boevers
3800 N. Mueller
Bethany, OK 73008
This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and it’s something I’ve prayed about and thought about for so long. More than monetary donations, I’m really asking for prayer for the whole team, and for Cambodia. If you know anything about the history of Cambodia, you know that they have been through so much, and are in constant need of support and prayer.
Pray about it, and e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in lending a hand in this mission adventure…
Love, and be loved…
Here are a few shots from Dillon’s senior session! Such a sweet guy who cracks me up! We had fun running around the Farmer’s Market in OKC, and I can’t wait to see what Dillon will accomplish in the next phase of his life! Best of luck Dillon! You are bound for greatness!
I have been so excited to post a few shots from Emily’s bridal session! I was so honored to shoot her wedding this last weekend, and I can’t wait to post photos from it. She was a gorgeous bride, and I had so many favorites from this session! Congrats Emily!
Matt and Melissa had an amazing wedding day back in October… a gorgeous outdoor wedding at Whispering Pines in Norman, OK full of fun! They had a such a lively bunch to work with which always keeps things fun and entertaining! They are a great couple with sweet spirits about them, and I look forward to what they will accomplish together! Congrats Matt & Melissa!
Words cannot describe how much fun I had on this session… Karen and Stuart are simply lovely, and I loved the vision they had for their engagement session. It was exactly my cup of tea! So creative, so fun, so sweet… Perfect in every way! It’s always fun to get to work with couples who have the same taste as you do, especially when it comes to anything creative, like music or art. We had a great time taking these, and I had so many favorites! So excited for their wedding… If it’s anything like this, then it will be glorious! Thanks Stuart and Karen!
Not only was I so happy with the outcome of Chris & Kiara’s wedding back in September, but I was even happier to see that they are featured in the Spring/Summer 2011 issue of Brides of Oklahoma Magazine! Brides of Oklahoma is such a great resource for Oklahoma Brides, and it’s overflowing with ideas and vendor information. I know I’ve already found it helpful with my own wedding plans! Be sure to get a copy!
Change. Change is funny, awkward, stressful, scary, and necessary. Without change, there is no growth. Without growth, there is no progress. 2011 is going to bring a lot of change for my life, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic about it!
Between GETTING MARRIED, starting my last year of school, one of my best friend’s getting married, moving, Zach starting Medical School in the Fall, my sister and brother-in-law moving to North Carolina where he will begin Seminary at Duke (SO proud of him!), travels to Virginia and Cambodia (more to come about that!), and just the usual craziness of life, it’s going to be a busy year full of change.
Along with all of this, I really want to focus on how I want to pursue graphic design, and how I want it to work with photography. I love both fields so much, and I can’t wait to see how the two come together. Next Fall, I plan on trying for an internship in design, and that should determine a lot! I have so many ideas and goals that keep me reeling about the future. It excites me and keeps me dreaming big. My hope is that this year will turn a lot of those goals into a reality, and I want to make sure I allow myself the time and energy to make it happen!
Because of all these changes, I will not be taking on any more weddings for 2011. Though it bums me out to turn people away, I’m so excited about the handful of couples I will be working with over the next year, and I want to ensure that they are taken care of and given the best service I can provide! I am so excited to capture this incredible time in their lives, and I feel so blessed to get to work with them! This will not affect any regular sessions (engagement, bridal, family, senior, etc.), so contact me any time!
Needless to say, I’m on the brink of something exciting. Something unknown. Something wonderful. There are things we can plan for, and things we can’t, and we have to be ok with that. The growth I’ve experienced this year alone makes me so enthusiastic about the future of this business, and the future of the art I love! Thanks to all of my 2010 clients… you all have been a dream come true.
Cheers to 2011… it’s going to be EPIC!
