2012 came quickly, and when I look back at everything that happened in 2011, I sit here in a daze thinking, “How in the world was all of that possible? In ONE YEAR?!” 2011 truly was the epitome of a beautiful mess, full of chaos and more blessings than I could ever imagine. I know I have fallen off the blogosphere for a while, and I have so much I’m going to post soon. However, this year has challenged me in a multitude of ways; mentally, artistically, spiritually, and emotionally. It’s been an unexpected but very welcome new journey as I’ve been pushed to new and exciting limits, and I couldn’t be happier! Here’s a brief look at 2011:
It started off with wedding planning, as my sweet Zachary proposed on Christmas Day 2010. I learned that it doesn’t matter if you live and breathe weddings… NOTHING prepares you for all the details and planning that goes into your own wedding! I totally sympathize with my brides now. Ladies, we are WARRIORS! (NOTE: Know that EIGHT months of the year consisted of me cringing in fear as I watched Jillian Michael’s 30-Day Shred Workout DVD stare at me every day… Also note that it was never opened. Not once. Not even a little bit. And I’m ok with that.) Zach graduated from OU in May and moved into our wonderful home in Norman. It provides endless entertainment from the critters that surround it. Such critters include but are not limited to: coyotes, snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, owls, frogs, mice, etc. But really, you should come visit sometime! 🙂 We really do love it here though…
An awesome trip to Virginia to celebrate my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary… I really love my family, and it was so great to see them… Virginia is beautiful!
A soul-seeking trip to Cambodia that showed me more about love and the human condition than I could have ever planned for. I also got to cross “Ride and Asian elephant in Asia” off my bucket list… It was pretty great…
Got married to my best friend two weeks later on August 12th. Best. Day. Ever.

The day after the wedding, my beloved sister and her dashing husband moved to North Carolina where he would begin his journey at Duke Divinity School, and she would teach 11th grade English. It was certainly bittersweet, and I miss them like CRAZY. However, I couldn’t be more excited for this new phase in their life. They inspire me!
Two days later, Zach started Medical School at OU, and my oh my, what a journey it’s already been! I am so extremely proud of him and his passion for wanting to serve others. He has such a unique gift! He’s not going to be a doctor… He’s going to be a GREAT doctor.
I started my last year of college the next week, and also spent the semester as an intern for CCEW (The Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth). It was an eye-opening experience, and I learned a lot. I especially loved the group I worked with… 🙂
The year ended with a series of interviews, finding out that my best friend, Kacie, is preggers, an awesome homecoming of my sister and brother-in-law, and getting a job for the beginning of 2012. The holidays were so fantastic as we got to spend a lot of time with family and friends.
So far, 2012 will bring my graduation (HALLELUJAH!), a belated honeymoon to Costa Rica, an epic fishing adventure with my Poppa (I have chills just thinking about how epic it will be!), many great weddings to shoot and attend, and the arrival of my best friend’s baby bean… which pretty much makes me an aunt. YES.
In the middle of all of that, I have to say that I had the BEST clients in the world this year! So many amazing weddings and portrait sessions that make me adore my job. Speaking of jobs, you may be wondering what other job I accepted and how that will affect my photography. Like I said, this year has really challenged my artistically, and I don’t feel like I can truly grow as an artist if I don’t explore many options. This May, I will graduate with a degree in Graphic Design. I LOVE design so much, and the hard part is that I equally LOVE photography. So for now, I’m going to pursue both! Naturally! I can’t really say much about this new job other than it’s a sort of dream job for me and a total answer to prayer. The best part about it is that it will NOT affect my photo business, so keep the inquiries coming! 2012 holds exciting things for my business. I have big dreams and visions for what I want it to eventually be. This year will be another year of growing and learning, and I couldn’t be more excited to truly begin the process of transforming Kris Boevers Photography into something I can be even more proud of. It is by the grace of God and you (my clients, family, friends, peers, and educators) that I am where I am, and that I’m going where I’m going. Thank YOU for an unforgettable year, and cheers to 2012!
